From the Cockpit to Creativity: Lessons from My Journey, Reflections on My Voyage Dallas Interview

Recently, I had the honor of being featured in Voyage Dallas, where I shared some of the stories, lessons, and insights that have shaped my life

both in and out of the cockpit. What started as a conversation about aviation quickly became a reflection on integrity, healing, connection, and what it truly means to live with intention. 

Integrity: The Foundation of Everything

The interview began with a simple but powerful question: What’s more important: intelligence, energy, or integrity?My answer was clear: integrity. Intelligence can be learned, and energy can fluctuate, but integrity is who you are when no one is watching. In aviation, there’s no room for shortcuts or half-measures — and that same standard intersects with life, relationships, leadership, and creativity. 

Integrity has guided every career transition I’ve made, every creative idea I’ve pursued, and every partnership I’ve built. It’s not a skill; it’s a compass. 

My Story: A Journey Fueled by Discipline and Curiosity

I grew up in Colombia, where discipline and responsibility entered my life early through military aviation. Learning to operate under pressure, respect systems, and take responsibility didn’t just make me a pilot, it shaped how I show up in the world. 

After moving to the United States, I transitioned into business aviation, where I had the privilege of flying and managing jets and leading a flight department in San Antonio, Texas. Those years demanded precision, leadership, and trust; lessons that still inform every decision I make. 

But flying was only one expression of how I process life. I began writing to understand the sacrifices, reinventions, and emotional costs that came with pursuing altitude while staying grounded. Those writings became books. Music followed as DJ FL450, where I translate the feeling of flight, solitude, and motion into sound. And entrepreneurship came as a natural extension of weaving structure with soul through Fligent — my platform connecting aviation, creativity, and long-term vision. 

On Bonds, Vulnerability, and Healing

Relationships, whether with family, friends, or colleagues are deeply personal terrains. In the interview, I spoke about what breaks bonds: unspoken pain, unresolved conflict, pride, fear of vulnerability, and emotional silence. What restores them? Truth spoken with humility, presence, listening without winning, and accountability without defensiveness. 

I also shared some of the defining wounds of my life: the necessity to survive before learning how to feel deeply. Military and professional expectations reinforced a habit of performance over emotion. But true healing didn’t happen by erasing these wounds — it unfolded through awareness, writing, music, and learning to listen to my internal landscape with patience and courage. 

Debunking Industry Myths

One of the most meaningful parts of the conversation was about the lies our industries tell themselves, especially in aviation, entrepreneurship, and creative work. Two of the biggest myths are:

• Success looks the same for everyone.

• Professionalism requires emotional detachment.

  
  

In reality, meaningful success isn’t a one-size-fits-all template. It’s built by people who understand themselves, set honest boundaries, and define success on their own terms. Precision and discipline matter, but so do curiosity, reflection, and empathy. 

Legacy - How I Hope to Be Remembered

Before we wrapped up, I was asked what story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone. My hope is simple:That I lived with intention, showed up fully for what I loved, took responsibility for the paths I chose, and created connection and meaning through my work.

More than titles or accomplishments, I hope to be remembered as someone who stayed curious, remained honest, and used discipline not just to succeed — but to enrich the lives of others.

If there’s a thread that ties all of this together: flying, writing, music, entrepreneurship, relationships, it’s this:Life isn’t about escaping gravity; it’s about learning to navigate it while staying true to who you are.
